WY Police
Every December the women of Leeds Reclaim the Night. Every event we have to explain to police officers why we march. Often they seem to agree that women should be free to walk the streets without fear of sexual violence.
Yet they still spend that weekend flyering in the city centre warning women about what they drink, what they wear, how they travel around the festive season to "prevent" assault.
They never suggest that men might try to not rape women out celebrating Christmas, it is always us who are given ever longer lists of things that qualify as making it our fault should the worst happen, because after all the Police warned us that getting tipsy in our party shoes might get us raped.
I have to resist ramming their flyers down their gullets... How do they expect survivors to trust them when they are out blaming women before anything has even happened?
