I noticed that he would become more angry, aggressive and eventually violent if he felt I had embarrassed him, or made him feel stupid, or he felt I had made a mistake of some sort.

 

The fear of being hit overtook me to the point I took to apologising for anything & everything in a bid to offset the anger & avoid being hit.

 

Eleven years on, I'm still doing this despite having ended the relationship a decade ago.
