Everyday Victim Blaming

challenging institutional disbelief around domestic & sexual violence and abuse

Alice Walker on Desert Island Discs

I have just listened to Alice Walker on Desert Island Discs, she was awesome. Her paternal grandmother was incredibly beautiful and was the victim of a domestic homicide, murdered because she turned down a man who by all accounts was stalking her, but the murder was attributed to her beauty. I was really disappointed and surprised that this blatant victim blaming was not challenged as part of the discussion.

Thank you for this comment – we find victim blaming is hardly ever challenged (especially by broadcasters) so unfortunately, we’re not surprised 🙁
