Everyday Victim Blaming

challenging institutional disbelief around domestic & sexual violence and abuse

.@nbcchicago You mean child sexual abuse, not ‘sex acts’.

Another day, another appalling headline in the media:

'Worst of the Worst': Ex-Pediatric Nurse Sentenced to 80 Years for Sex Acts with Infants

This time from NBC Chicago.

Michael Lutts pled guilty to two counts of sexual exploitation of a child and one count of distributing images of children being sexually abuse. He also "admitted to 15 instances of photographing or videotaping the infants in "sexually explicit situations at both his home and his work place...". Stephen Schaffner and Bartolomeo Baravella have been accused of conspiracy.

CBC Chicago also used the term 'child pornography", which appears in the legal statutes in numerous jurisdictions. We do not use the term preferring 'still or video images of children being sexually abused, raped or tortured'.
