Everyday Victim Blaming

challenging institutional disbelief around domestic & sexual violence and abuse

Volunteer ‘Media Watchers’ Wanted!

Are you an avid news follower? Do you read your local paper regularly, as well as the national news? If so, we need your help!

We're trying to do a year-long analysis of the media, looking at the quality of the reporting related to men's violence against women & children. We'll be collating links (or images of paper copies) showing the best (and worst!) VAWC reporting.

We've divided the UK into policing areas, so we can also see the responses from the local police forces with regards to language used.  We're a regional organisation, so we want to ensure that it is a UK-wide project, rather than London-centric. As we recruit EVB Media Watchers for each county, we'll update this post with the remaining availability. We're aware that some areas may be more popular than others, so if you access your news online, please consider opting for an area outside of your geographical area.

We're an unfunded service, so it's unfortunately a volunteer role. We expect it to be a time commitment of about an hour per week - checking local media; finding reports about violence against women & children (to include: rape, sexual assault; indecent assault; child sexual abuse; child sexual exploitation; assault; grievous or actual bodily harm; wounding; attempted murder; manslaughter; murder; any crime under the 'domestic abuse' umbrella; forced marriage; so-called honour based violence; stalking; harassment and any other crime that is of a gendered nature); emailing us with a link showing the publication, the date of publishing & the name of the journalist.

We'll credit your involvement in the campaign, and will be writing a quarterly report with some analysis of language, content & which media outlets & journalists are writing well on this subject.

If you're interested, please us the contact us form & let us know the county you'd like to monitor. We'll be in touch!

Thank you for your continued support with our campaign - we can't do it without you!
