challenging institutional disbelief around domestic & sexual violence and abuse

I despair of the BBC News website – reporting on Polanski (content note)

Severe CN: Child rape in explicit detail

The BBC website reports on the Polish extradition hearing for Roman Polanski in the article http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-europe-31618390

In the very first paragraph, the BBC declares that the USA is seeking to extradite Polanski on charges of sex with a 13-year-old girl.

No, BBC. An adult does not have sex with a 13 year old child. She cannot consent. There is no "having sex with". There is an adult man raping a girl.

And to remove any doubt on the matter, in Polanski's case, let's be explicit about the details. He was charged with drugging a child. He was charged with raping her, both vaginally and anally. As part of a plea deal, he plead guilty to "engaging in unlawful sexual intercourse with a minor", commonly known as "statutory rape". Because, you know, it's rape. Of a child unable to consent to sex.

And BBC, in case it escaped your notice, Polanski plead guilty to the charge but fled before sentencing. He is a self-confessed statutory rapist. He is not facing charges. He is facing sentencing for his admitted crime.

Please stop soft-soaping Polanski and report his crimes and situation, honestly and without biased, as you are supposed to.
